For over 5 decades, the KYW Newsradio staff has been taking part in one of the most unique educational programs in the nation, the KYW Newstudies program. Station staff members teach local high school students about news writing, journalism, editing, social media, interviewing and what goes on behind the scenes at one of the most respected news stations in the country. With over 7500 graduates to date, some notable alumni include Michael Smerconish, host of CNN TV show “Smerconish” and Steve Capus, Executive Editor of CBS News.
WBT's District 9 GOP Debate
WBT is Charlotte’s prime source for local news and elections. When a new Republican Primary was called for NC Congressional District 9, WBT organized and hosted the only debate among the GOP candidates for hundreds of attendees and thousands who listened live.
